Brightsquid is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Giuffre has rejoined our Board of Directors as Chairperson. Dr. Giuffre, who first served the board in 2016 and 2017, is a practicing Pediatric Cardiologist who brings four decades of medical practice and leadership to the direction of Brightsquid. His expertise and experience in healthcare and business will be instrumental to continued growth as we help solve the data interoperability challenges across the healthcare system.
Dr. Giuffre brings a deep understanding of healthcare administration and the needs and interests of Canada’s physicians. He is a past president and former board member of the Alberta Medical Association and also served on the Board of the Canadian Medical Association. This important perspective aligns with Brightsquid’s mission to support physicians in achieving professional fulfillment and optimized patient care. Additionally, as a medical specialist, Dr. Giuffre knows how the improved care team communication achieved with Brightsquid Secure-Mail can benefit providers and patients.
In his active role as a Clinical Professor and mentor at the University of Calgary, Dr. Giuffre helps medical students prepare for the realities of practice while also learning fresh perspectives on addressing the challenges faced by healthcare. The insights gained from working with the future front line of medicine will inform Brightsquid product development and feature refinement.
Dr. Giuffre also has important experience in business leadership. Since completing an Executive MBA in 2002, Dr. Giuffre has been involved in several successful businesses founded on innovation in healthcare; from data management to food safety. He also serves on the board of DiaMedica Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on filling the gaps in treatment for neurological and kidney diseases. These experiences will strengthen Brightsquid’s services that support proactive patient care as well as business planning inititatves.
With a career committed to improving the lives of others (which includes work with UNICEF, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, and the Parks Foundation of Calgary), Dr. Giuffre brings a wholistic point of view to the direction of Brightsquid as we continue our work uniting the entire healthcare team.
