How to Get Started With Your Secure-Mail

Get Invited

You have to be invited by a registered clinic in order to activate your account. If your doctor’s office hasn’t invited you to connect using Secure-Mail, let them know you’d like to use the system with them.

In Alberta, you can create your own Secure-Mail account by going to the messaging tab in your MyHealth Records Account. Once you’re setup, you can search for your providers in the directory.

Once you receive your invitation email, click the button in the body of the email and follow the steps in the form to activate your account. Use your date of birth as listed in your clinic file to verify your identity.

Explore the system

You’ll notice that Secure-Mail looks and feels just like your regular email account. Your Inbox, Sent, Drafts, and Trash folders are on the left, while message threads are in the center column, grouped by message subject. By simply clicking on a message thread, you can open a list of all the messages and replies in that conversation.

Now that you’ve familiarized yourself with the system, you can go ahead and message any of your providers or clinics you find in the Brightsquid directory. If you don't see your provider in the directory, just ask the clinic to sign up for an account. Start a new secure message by clicking “Compose” in the top right of your browser window.
